The World Indoor Championships in Birmingham proved to be a high quality event with the field events particularly producing thrilling competition. But we are aware that for many members the travel to Birmingham proved to be problematic and they were not able to attend the event.
Some members have enquired about ticket refunds as a result of being not able to travel because of the bad weather. BASC assists members in obtaining the best value tickets by ensuring that members are allocated seats in the sections reserved for BASC members. Tickets are not purchased through BASC but, in the case of Birmingham2018, via British Athletics or for some members via Track and Field. The ticket sales are thus governed by the ticket conditions of British Athletics and Birmingham 2018. Given that the event took place with a an almost full stadium means that refunds are not applicable.
Some members contacted BASC before the event and we know that the ticket office was happy to assist members by, for example, re-printing tickets where some of a group were not able to travel and who held their tickets, but others replaced them.
A future article in Backtrack will look at insurance and liabilities for travel to and attendance at events.
If you were among the unlucky people who were not able to travel we trust that you watched the event – it is understood that the BBC coverage gave more time to field events than in the past so we trust that your disappointment was tempered by this.
