As was the case in 2008, this year's BASC Members' Dinner will take place to coincide with the AAAs Championships and World Championship Trials at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, being held nearby on Saturday July 11th after the conclusion of the day's track and field programme.
We are delighted to confirm that Paul Dickenson, well known BBCTV athletics commentator, is to be our main guest for the 2009 dinner.
Subject to the timetable of the day's events in the Alexander Stadium we are planning for the meal to be served at around 8pm to allow those attending more time to arrive at the hotel. Further confirmation of this will be announced nearer to the event.
Paul Dickenson
Paul is one of the best known voices in television sport coverage, having commentated for the BBC on track and field athletics at every major televised championship since 1987. Before that he was an athlete for 10 years, holding the British and Commonwealth hammer record, taking part in the 1976 and 1980 Olympics as well as captaining the Great Britain and England athletics teams.
The dinner
The venue for this year's dinner will again be The Great Barr Hotel and Conference Centre (see www.thegreatbarrhotel.com), situated some 5 minutes by car from the Alexander Stadium.
We would emphasise that attendance at this event is strictly limited to club members and their guests only, so any non-members wishing to attend should download and complete the application form for club membership as soon as possible and return it to our Membership Secretary with their subscription payment.
We have now mailed booking forms for the dinner to all our members and would ask those members who wish to attend to please book early to avoid disappointment. Demand for tickets for previous dinners has been considerable. As of June 17th 2009 we have already received over 70 confirmed bookings so there is still the opportunity for any interested members to book for a pleasant social evening with us during trials weekend.
We hope to see you there for what should be another most enjoyable evening. |
