Awards 2010
Katharine Merry Trophy - winner Sophie Hitchon
Hammer thrower Sophie Hitchon from Blackburn Harriers and AC is pictured with her BASC Katharine Merry Trophy, as presented to her at Bedford on 19th June 2010. The Katharine Merry Trophy is presented for the best performance in a championship by a female young athlete in the previous year, and is awarded to Sophie on the basis of her British junior record throw of 63.18 at the European Juniors in Novi Sad last year, the 5th time in 2009 that she broke the record.
In difficult windy conditions at Bedford, Sophie marked her award with a throw of 63.74m, plus two other throws of 63m, to more than match the UKA qualifying standard of 58m for the World Juniors.
Male Young Athlete for last year - Rikkie Letch

Rikkie, from Windsor Slough & Eton, was also presented with his award at Bedford on June 19th in recognition of his outstanding 800m performances last year. Currently battling injury, we hope to see Rikkie back on the track in the near future and look forward to cheering him on when he returns.
Congratulations from us to both Sophie and Rikkie on their awards, and thank you to our members whose kind donations enable us to make these awards each year and to reward our talented youngsters.
Photos and reports on presentations to Katarina Johnson-Thompson and James Wilkinson will appear here in due course. |
